'please don't be a murder' lolomg

does this show rely too much on second hand embarrassment cause it seems cool but I literally scream at second hand embarrassment

it's not that bad about the secondhand embarrassment comedy; it's more like wow those are really bad choices that you're rationalizing comedy. Some of the situations are really cringey but it's not really what the show relies on.

oh i don't think i've seen that one yet; but in general i feel like I like her terrible situations better because i feel like they still feel real instead of just embarrassment for laughs. and by real like i mean i feel like i could easily find myself having done these things.

It's entirely self-aware though? Like in the intro song there's even like a "That's a sexist term!" in there.

I mean it's not perfect but it's more feminist-friendly than most of what network tv has to offer

Cosigned. This show is wonderful and way more self-aware than the title leads you to believe.

It's one of those series where all the characters are more or less in the wrong to a certain degree, which makes it much more human -- the titular character fucks up a LOT in a way resonated quite a bit with me.

And the musical numbers are phenomenal. I'm fond of Settle For Me, and I no joke had I'm A Good Person stuck in my head all day yesterday. (Latter is NSFW!)

Also, if you like CEG you should 100% watch Rachel's other videos. Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury was a transcendental experience.

Anything to get more folks watching television shows that I like

(real talk tho CEG was one of the lowest-rated series this season in terms of viewers [according to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crazy_Ex-Girlfriend_(TV_series)#Ratings] and it still got renewed by the CW? Which is a miracle but tbh I'd love for more people to discover how great this show is)

I think the marketing is all wrong tbh. I didn't want to watch it until I heard the Rachel Bloom NPR interview which provided some context.

Yeah, it took a couple of months of nonstop rave reviews from The AV Club for me to finally jump in, and I was pleasantly surprised!

My hunch is that it just breaks even on TV advertising and then makes most of its money in tie-in stuff like the soundtracks.

I been meaning to watch this, it looks really fun though I think the title they chose was a bad choice, just cause it puts so many people (myself included) off right from the get-go.

yeah; i don't know what it is with shows that actually have women characters and are about women being titled with openly misogynistic and offputting titles. The same thing happened with "Don't trust the B in Apartment 23" which was actually really good too.

Yeah! I haven't finished Don't Trust the B but it immediately came to mind when I heard people saying that Crazy Ex is good. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I've just been watching this too; one of my friends from college was proselytizing about it on the facebook and holy wow was it a good suggestion.

I'm good; dog life is crazy (I told you about the dog right? fostering a pitbull for a while) and he's been keeping me active.

I'm actually having to do work too which is a shock; it's really annoying because the work is basically just constant problems with things that should be really easy and because they're supposed to be easy there's nothing to really do to fix them. ugh. and then there was this whole thing i was working on and then at the end of getting it working it's like "nope actually i'm going to just go ahead and have a hardware problem so you have to stop and start dealing with that"

[–]onononon[S] 0 points1 point ago

Idk if you told me about the dog, that's cool though! Do you have any puppy pix to share? I wish we had a dog, but our apartment is too small for all of that.

That's annoying about work also. Are you still telecommuting or do you have to like, deal with office lurkers and whatnot?

[–]trimalchio 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah; I should post some pics of him on here, he's so cute it's a crime not to share his cute face with folks.

but yeah, he's like super energetic and he's getting me to get out of the house more, which is cool, but he's also a loooot of work too.

and then with the work stuff it's good cause i am still mostly doing stuff from home, but this past week i had to do work like a 2hr drive away from where i live and it was supposed to go on all night and so i had to get someone to come over and watch him and stuff.

but oh man did i deal with office lurking for that whole long upgrade thing; my coworker flew in and he's like the definition of the insult basic... he like nonironically likes applebees and ruby tuesdays and hes super excited about the new summer blockbuster. So I went and got food with him at applebees and it was weird. i realized I don't really know how to talk about pop culture.
